BIPOC in the Outdoors

July 2022

New Hampshire is filled with outdoor recreational activities from hiking, fishing, boating, climbing, leaf-peeping and so much more. Access to New Hampshire's premier outdoor recreational amenities is a main reason that young people cite as a reason they choose to stay in the Granite State. But young people of color have noted that they don't always feel welcome and comfortable in New Hampshire's great outdoors.

In this virtual panel discussion hear from three young outdoor enthusiasts of color who will talk about why their peers don't always feel like the outdoors is for them, how this affects the state's economy, and efforts to attract and retain young people of color, and what we can collectively do to make New Hampshire's great outdoors a more inclusive and welcoming space for all.

Making a More Vibrant New Hampshire

April 2022

The most vibrant places - those that attract and retain young people and people of all ages - are often also those with thriving arts scenes. In this panel discussion, hear from four young artists of color who through their creative endeavors are making New Hampshire a more interesting place to stay, work, and play.

DEI in the Statehouse

July 2021

From a bill seeking to institute recommendations made by the Commission on Law Enforcement Accountability, Community, and Transparency (LEACT) to a budget provision banning the teaching of so-called “divisive concepts,” the 2021 legislative session featured various pieces of legislation seeking to both advance – and reverse – diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts in New Hampshire. The discussion took a look at these pieces of legislation, their reception among legislators and the general public, how these legislative efforts ultimately fared, reaction from DEI advocates, and what other kinds of DEI legislation we might expect to see in 2022.

Anti-Racist Action: A Continuous Transformation

May and June 2021

In partnership with New Hampshire for Anti-Racist Education (NHARE), “Anti-Racist Action: A Continuous Transformation” helped build an understanding of what it means to be anti-racist and how to take intentional action for sustainable change in your community. Active listening and internal reflection are the springboard for which anti-racism work begins. The work in this series is simply the first step on a long road towards change. Facilitated by Adaeze Okorie and Grace Landry, the Co-Founders of New Hampshire for Anti-Racist Education, the workshops were driven by the insights they both learned through their personal and collaborative work. From internal reflection to community action, this interactive workshop series steps through how we can begin to take anti-racist actions for continuous transformation. In anti-racist work we ask ourselves, not just what are we doing, but who are we becoming?
