On those rare weeks when blizzards are postponing everything in sight (and The (un)Official City of Portsmouth, NH Facebook page is calling for snowball fights in the Square), we swap our usual Week Ahead for a Peek Aheadโ€”and this week, weโ€™ve got a special share.

Have you heard about Hear & There?
Itโ€™s not Woodstock.
Itโ€™s not a festival.

Itโ€™s a weekend of music, March 5โ€“8, that highlights almost every music venue Portsmouth has to offer. Because we're proud of our City, and it rocksโ€”even in March!

From stages at Jimmy's Jazz & Blues Club (you know, the spot that hosted Van Morrison in 2024?) to The Music Hall Lounge, 3S Artspace, The Press Room, Button Factory Stage, Cup of Joe cafe & bar, and Dwyer's Pub, the lineup is as eclectic as the venues.

The weekend even crosses the Memorial Bridge to The Dance Hall, Kittery in Kittery, Maine, where Della Mae has already sold out!

Some highlights:
๐ŸŒŠ Deer Tick โ€“ Back at 3S Artspace for the first time since 2016 on an intimate stage for the inaugural Hear & There weekend. Your writer first saw Deer Tick with Matt Bonner (๐Ÿ€) at The Page in 2011.
๐ŸŒŠ Drunk Opera History: Mozart Edition with Opera On Tap Boston โ€“ We got the inside scoop from our friends on Vaughan Street: โ€œOpera isnโ€™t the first thing people think of when it comes to 3S, but our community is full of curious people, and weโ€™re all about feeding curiosity. This matinee is perfect for the classical-curious, fans of 3S, students of music, trivia-lovers, or anyone who just wants to be entertained by incredible vocal talent (and one drunk historian!) with impressive resumes from the National Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Carnegie Hall, Light Opera of New York, and Natchez Festival of Music.โ€
๐ŸŒŠ Highway Kind (The Stray Horses) present a Birthday Celebration of Townes Van Zandt at the The Press Room โ€“ We asked what song theyโ€™d play for TVZโ€™s birthday if he were alive: โ€œWeโ€™d definitely play our rendition of the old country song Fraulein, which is the first song TVZ ever learned & performed ๐Ÿค .โ€
